Gone are the days of using special scrubs and brushes to exfoliate your skin. The new Asian Spa trend which is to hit UK spas in 2009 is Fish Therapy!
We're turning to our fishy friends to pamper us and make our skin feel buffed and silky smooth. The therapy, which involves placing either your hands, feet or if you're feeling really daring, your entire body in to water that contains hundreds of little Turkish fish which nibble away at your dead skin cells revealing a layer of fresh new skin.
Ailments like psoriasis and flaking skin on fingers and feet are put under pain-free attack by these ravenous skin-savers, though the experience is most certainly not for the faint hearted. "It feels so bizarre putting your feet into a pool full of fish that are waiting to bite you" says Jenna Lloyd, who tried it out on her recent travels in South East Asia. "It tickles so much at first and it's so difficult not to laugh but once you get used to the sensation it can feel quite relaxing" she added.
The spa gimmick which is hugely popular in countries such as Japan and China takes exfoliation to a whole new level and leaves your skin feeling fantastic and unbelievably soft.
Would you dare to try fish therapy?
