Get ‘Carried’ away with e.l.f.
Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Get ‘Carried’ away with e.l.f.
Excitement’s reaching a fever pitch as it’s only a week before SATC2 hits our screens – and with it come the fabulous dresses, cocktails, and of course, make up.

Whether you see yourself as a Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda or Samantha, we’ve been avid followers of the love lives and wardrobes of these four Manhattan ladies for over a decade. We may not all be able to afford a closet the size of Carrie’s, but thanks to e.l.f., we can afford to recreate her make up look.  Here’s a few tips from e.l.f. to show you how the four characters’ very different looks can be achieved without breaking the bank…

If you’re a Carrie…

Think gorgeous sun-kissed skin with a touch of sparkle to shimmer throughout the day.  e.l.f.’s Mineral Glow in Bronzed will highlight your cheekbones and ensure you light up any room you walk into. Create gorgeous smoky eyes with Studio Single Eyeshadow in Charcoal and complete your look with Mineral Lip Gloss in Trendsetter.  Stick on a pair of Manolos and you’re good to go!

Maybe you sizzle like Samantha…

Samantha oozes glamour and sophistication at every turn, and her make up matches just that.  Her skin is positively glowing, and you can achieve the same look by using the Mineral Booster to ensure skin is matte and smooth all day long. Use the Cream Eyeliner in Coffee to smoulder with smoky eyes.  Keep colour from fading from your lips by using the Studio Lip Lock Pencil.

Perhaps you’re more of a Miranda…

Ever the professional, Miranda exudes a stylish yet subtle air, and her make up perfectly reflects this.  Her alabaster skin shows you don’t need to be tanned to be sexy.  Add a touch of colour to cheeks with the Studio Blush in Candid Coral, and spice up lips with a splash of Mineral Lipstick in Royal Red.  Keep your cool in the boardroom with the Mineral Infused Mascara in Black to complete the look.

Or maybe you’re a classic rose like Charlotte…

Charlotte always looks young, fresh and downright pretty.  Use the Studio Concealer and Highlighter to keep eyes looking bright.  Achieve Charlotte’s flawless complexion with the Mineral Blemish Kit.  The Studio Lip Stain in Heartbreaker will perfect your pout – and perhaps a few pearls here and there wouldn’t go amiss!

When Good Makeup Goes Bad

When Good Makeup Goes Bad

Make-up mistakes - we’ve all made them. And no doubt we’ve all shuddered with embarrassment when we look back at the photos.Foundation that’s too orange, dodgy eye liner, tacky blue eye shadow. Been there, done that.

But it’s not just us mere mortals that get it wrong. Plenty of celebs get in on the act of cosmetic failure, too.
All too often we’re confronted with snaps of badly applied eye shadow, harsh lip liner and cakey foundation.
Make-up artists or no make-up artists, the stars can (and often!) get it wrong. And there's literally nowhere to hide when you're in the public eye.

Aren't we lucky we're not papped at every turn when we look like death?

So, what’s the biggest cosmetic faux pas? Streaky fake tan, lipstick on the teeth or overly pencilled in eyebrows.

Ladies, we want to hear your make-up misdemeanours. Come on, we know you've made them!

Tanned vs Fair

Tanned vs Fair

The evenings are already getting lighter and it’s not long until we’ll be digging out our crop tops and shorts.

But will you be breaking out the St Tropez this year, or embracing the pale?

In recent years, doll faced beauties like Katy Perry, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Girl’s Aloud’s Nicola Roberts and Dita Von Teese have shown us that pale is, indeed, interesting.

Bronzed babes Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears and Cheryl Cole, on the other hand, will no doubt be resorting to their trusty bottle of fake tan this summer.

But what about you?

Is it sexier to be sun kissed, or will the porcelain-skinned among you be flaunting your natural beauty?

Don’t forget, there’s plenty of ways to achieve a natural looking tan without resorting to sun beds.

A subtle sweep of bronzer will brighten dull skin in an instant, while pale-faced English roses can accentuate their complexion with a hint of pink.

Why not take a tip from Nicola Roberts by keeping make-up simple yet stylish, or go for dramatic feline-esque eyes like Sophie Ellis Bextor.

What will you go for this summer? Bronzed beach babe or pale-faced chic?

Vamp it up for Valentine's

Vamp it up for Valentine's

February 14 is fast approaching and nothing says ‘Valentine’s Day’ quite like a statement red lip.

Cliched it may be, but there’s nothing more glamorous than vibrant scarlet smackers.
Still not convinced? Then it’s just about finding the right red for you.

Doll-faced beauty Katy Perry keeps it simple yet chic with barely there foundation, subtle eye make-up and a pillar box red pout, while pin up star Dita Von Teese goes for sultry and sexy with feline-esque eyes, defined eyebrows and rosy cheeks.

If you really want to vamp it up, surprise your fella with dramatic Christina Aguilera-inspired ‘come to bed’ eyes and glossy lips.

Et voila! Perfectly preened Valentine's looks in an instant. Now, pucker up!

What e.l.f products will you be digging out to create your hot to trot, Valentine’s look?

Purple Haze

Purple Haze

Fed up of this cold, wet weather? Cheer yourself up by experimenting with the new 'smoky eye' with a touch of purple - set to become the look for Spring / Summer 2010.

As seen on the Versace, Christian Dior and Nicole Farhi Spring / Summer 2010 catwalks, purple is back with a vengeance in a more traditional manner that will suit every face and age.

Think of the purple haze as a traditional smoky eye with a hint of soft purple shadow such as our  Studio Single Eyeshadow in Amethyst swept over smoky lids creating pure glamour.

One celebrity who’s ahead of the game is home grown talent Leona Lewis who rocked purple haze eyes during the Golden Globes Awards matching her amazing Roberto Cavalli gown.

But remember, if you’re putting the focus on one feature on the face then keep the opposite neutral so not to look ‘overdone’. In this case keep lips bare ensuring a graceful appearance while focusing all attention on the purple haze eyes.

What e.l.f. products do you use to create the perfect perfect smoky eye?
