How to recreate the seasons hottest makeup trends using elf cosmetics

With London Fashion week AW 2012 well underway, we’ll expect to see lots of Beauty trends rolling off the catwalk!

From Marc Jacobs RED RED Lips to Jason Wu’s winged green eyeshadow, the AW2012 shows has left us in awe and inspired!

However the elf girls were struck most by Anna Sui’s collection with their ‘Blue Eyed Beauties’ rocking the runway with vivid, bolts of lightening blue eyeshadow. The look is toned down with a soft dewy complexion and nude rosebud lips which is also tre on trend…

Anna Sui AW12/13 Catwalk Show at London Fashion Week

Anna Sui's bolt of blue eyeliner

After lots of oohing and ahhing we’ve tried to recreate this look using products from elf cosmetics range.

Check it out below:

 Products used for the look:

How we achieved the look:

Step one: Prep the eyes with a primer to create the perfect canvas for the eyeshadow to adhere to.

Step two: Wet the elf small angled brush with water and dip into the Studio Single Eyeshadow in ‘Seablue’. Starting from the outer corner of the eye line your eyes with the shadow. Make sure to wing out at the outer corners. For more dramatic effect, extend the liner to just under the brow bone.

Step three: Keep building the liner until you reached the desired thickness.

Step four: Now go over the eyeshadow again with Make up lock and seal, to help lock down the shadow for longer wear and intensify the blue

TIP: After wetting the angled brush with the lock and seal solution, dip it into the sea blue eyeshadow before going over your line for an even brighter, bolder look!

Step five: Curl your lashes and apply a coat of Mineral infused Mascara in Black for long and defined lashes.

Step 6: Apply a tinted moisturizer for a dewy complexion. The elf Tinted Moisturiser is hydrating and has SPF 15 for added sun protection, perfect for creating a radiant glow.

Step 7: Cheeks at the Anna Sui catwalk had a very faint, pink tone as to not work against the strong blue in the eyes. Recreate this soft and natural look with elf Studio Blush in Tickled Pink.

Step 8: Lips were kept to a bare minimum in a soft, nude finish. We used elf studio matte lip colour in Tea Rose to recreate the rosebud look. Before applying, prep the lip by exfoliating to get rid of any dryness and slick on a coat of lip balm to keep them hydrated.

Step 9: Line the lips carefully with the matte lip colour before filling in the rest for a more defined lip.

If you prefer a matte finish to a dewy complexion, finish by dusting a layer of elf translucent matte powder over the face using a large face brush like the elf total face brush.

That’s it guys, a high fashion look in a few easy steps!

Now if you’re not a fan of blue shadow or eye makeup, there is no rule to say you cant substitute with another colour! The only rule here is bolder the better! Why not try green or purples we have an extensive range of shadows in array of colours and finishes at elf cosmetics!

We hope you liked it!

Love

Specs Appeal

Specs Appeal

I love my specs. I’ve collected them over the years, friends have given me pairs they know I’d adore, and I’ve picked them up in far-flung places while travelling.  I see specs as an accessory and an investment – after all, they’re on your face all day!

I think the reason I like to have so many spectacle options is how far specs fashions have come, from the 1970s & 80s. If you did love those NHS specs though, you can still find them! Check out Dead Mens Specs!!

I do wear contact lenses for performances and evenings out, but generally you’ll find me wearing my specs with pride.  My favorites are genuine vintage (you’ll need to find a friendly local Optician to put your prescription lenses in though, many modern chains won’t touch them) but there are also lots of fabulous modern styles in gorgeous colours, as well as vintage reproductions.

Wearing glasses does mean giving some extra thought to eye make up – specs draw attention to the eyes, and depending on your prescription, can make them seem smaller or larger.  Here are my top make up tips for specs wearers:

Groomed Brows

This is my top tip, and can make a big difference to everyone’s make up (and even affect the way your face-shape appears!) but it’s especially important for specs-wearers, as your eyes are such a focus for attention. The e.l.f. eyebrow powder kit is fabulous, and if you’re having trouble with plucking and defining your eyebrow shape, try the e.l.f eyebrow stencil kit – choose a shape, fill in with eyebrow powder, then pluck stray hairs!

Mascara

Eyelashes can be a nuisance for specs-wearers – bumping against your lenses, & leaving little mascara streaks, and it’s almost impossible to fit a set of stage-worthy false lashes under a pair of specs! I always curl my lashes with an e.l.f. eyelash curler to help fight against smudges, and I use mascara only on my top lashes which helps to minimise shadow being cast onto the under-eye area.  For daytime wear (especially as I’m dark-haired) I can get away with one coat.

Concealer

Specs can draw attention to any dark areas under the eye, and even cast shadows, so choose a light-textured concealer very close to your skin tone.  Apply sparingly and dust with powder - too much and your specs may slide away!

Colour & Blending

Because I like dramatic frames, I prefer to keep eye makeup simple and stick to fairly neutral shades, usually just one dark and one light shade.  Careful blending is extra-important for specs wearers as glasses can magnify mistakes.  If you find that powder shadows cause fallout onto your lenses, cream colours are a great alternative.

Highlighter

A creamy pale highlighter dotted onto the inner corners of the eyes and under the arch of the eyebrow will really brighten and open up your eyes.

Get ‘Carried’ away with e.l.f.

Get ‘Carried’ away with e.l.f.
Excitement’s reaching a fever pitch as it’s only a week before SATC2 hits our screens – and with it come the fabulous dresses, cocktails, and of course, make up.

Whether you see yourself as a Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda or Samantha, we’ve been avid followers of the love lives and wardrobes of these four Manhattan ladies for over a decade. We may not all be able to afford a closet the size of Carrie’s, but thanks to e.l.f., we can afford to recreate her make up look.  Here’s a few tips from e.l.f. to show you how the four characters’ very different looks can be achieved without breaking the bank…

If you’re a Carrie…

Think gorgeous sun-kissed skin with a touch of sparkle to shimmer throughout the day.  e.l.f.’s Mineral Glow in Bronzed will highlight your cheekbones and ensure you light up any room you walk into. Create gorgeous smoky eyes with Studio Single Eyeshadow in Charcoal and complete your look with Mineral Lip Gloss in Trendsetter.  Stick on a pair of Manolos and you’re good to go!

Maybe you sizzle like Samantha…

Samantha oozes glamour and sophistication at every turn, and her make up matches just that.  Her skin is positively glowing, and you can achieve the same look by using the Mineral Booster to ensure skin is matte and smooth all day long. Use the Cream Eyeliner in Coffee to smoulder with smoky eyes.  Keep colour from fading from your lips by using the Studio Lip Lock Pencil.

Perhaps you’re more of a Miranda…

Ever the professional, Miranda exudes a stylish yet subtle air, and her make up perfectly reflects this.  Her alabaster skin shows you don’t need to be tanned to be sexy.  Add a touch of colour to cheeks with the Studio Blush in Candid Coral, and spice up lips with a splash of Mineral Lipstick in Royal Red.  Keep your cool in the boardroom with the Mineral Infused Mascara in Black to complete the look.

Or maybe you’re a classic rose like Charlotte…

Charlotte always looks young, fresh and downright pretty.  Use the Studio Concealer and Highlighter to keep eyes looking bright.  Achieve Charlotte’s flawless complexion with the Mineral Blemish Kit.  The Studio Lip Stain in Heartbreaker will perfect your pout – and perhaps a few pearls here and there wouldn’t go amiss!

Desert Island Dreams

Desert Island Dreams

Summer’s fast approaching and it’s mere weeks until we’ll be grabbing our suitcases and heading to sunnier climes.

Your foreign holiday will come and go with the blink of an eye, though (sob), but what if you could be magically transported to a desert island for a little longer?

It’s time for that age-old question.... what’s your must-have desert island product?

You’re stranded on a deserted isle with only one beauty essential: what would it be?

Can your under eye circles be overlooked for that stunning summery coral lippie? Would you ditch the waterproof mascara for that beautiful bronzer? Or, will you ditch the make-up for uber cool beach-babe wavy hair, courtesy of your favourite hair spritz?

Let us in on your number one beauty essential that you couldn’t be without this summer….

When Good Makeup Goes Bad

Make-up mistakes - we’ve all made them. And no doubt we’ve all shuddered with embarrassment when we look back at the photos.Foundation that’s too orange, dodgy eye liner, tacky blue eye shadow. Been there, done that.

But it’s not just us mere mortals that get it wrong. Plenty of celebs get in on the act of cosmetic failure, too.
All too often we’re confronted with snaps of badly applied eye shadow, harsh lip liner and cakey foundation.
Make-up artists or no make-up artists, the stars can (and often!) get it wrong. And there's literally nowhere to hide when you're in the public eye.

Aren't we lucky we're not papped at every turn when we look like death?

So, what’s the biggest cosmetic faux pas? Streaky fake tan, lipstick on the teeth or overly pencilled in eyebrows.

Ladies, we want to hear your make-up misdemeanours. Come on, we know you've made them!
