Throw a hissy fit over a bizarre jewellery trend...

Throw a hissy fit over a bizarre jewellery trend...

If you thought our latest blog post was a belated April Fool, you'll definitely think this one is.

Cockroaches - love them or hate them, this new trend will shock you for sure.

Recently, a jewellery designer has decided to put her creative skills to good/bad use (delete as appropriate) to create Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Brooches.

Sounds foul enough, yeah? But wait til you hear this: they're alive.

Salt Lake City based designer Jared Gold has been busy creating and (shock horror) selling these creative critters for the past year.
A one-of-a-kind item, the hand crafted brooches - or 'Roachbrooches' - are made by gluing colourful Austrian Swarvoski crystals to the creature’s back.

To wear, you simply attach the brooch to your top with a pin, while a small chain you hook to the insect allows the cockroach to walk around a little while preventing it from going too far.

Who'd be mad enough to part with their hard-earned cash for one of these?
Thousands, it would seem - they've been scurrying off the shelves, quite literally, since they were first introduced to the online jewellery market.

Oh, and if you care for your cockroach properly, your brooch - which will set you back a whopping $80 - will last you a year.

I personally feel this is a pretty grim way to treat any creature (no matter how creepy it is) but I've spoken with people that feel it's no different than keeping a little dog with crystal collar. What do you think?

Lily Allen Launches Jewellery Range

Lily Allen Launches Jewellery Range

Apart from being a singer, style icon and constant paparazzi favourite Lily Allen has found the time to create her very own funky and fun jewellery range.

She explained: “I’m really pleased with all of the designs, we worked hard on getting them exactly how we wanted them from choosing the right chain length and thickness to deciding what should be in gold and what looks better in silver. I do love the animals though - the pandas are fantastic.”

The launch of the animal inspried range, held at Claridges London also saw Lily cause a media frenzy when she revealed a little more nipple than she’d anticpated almost stealing the limelight of her new venture but it’s nothing we haven’t see before!

She explained to vogue.com: “I love jewellery, always have done. I feel that it completes an outfit. You can change your whole look just by changing which jewellery you choose to go with what you’re wearing.”

If you like the look of it or just love Lily keep your eyes peeled for when it’s launched in stores for Christmas, prices will range from £30-£100.

What do you think of Lily’s new range? Do you think she should just stick to singing or has she cracked it in the fashion stakes too?

Is it a Ring or a Bluetooth Headset?

Is it a Ring or a Bluetooth Headset?

The Orb, part ring, part Bluetooth Headset must have been designed by a woman. What man could invent a stylish looking bluetooth headset which doubles up as a fashionable piece of jewellery?

Wear the Orb as a ring and then use the screen to find out who’s calling you. Then, to answer the call, simply twist the ring and put over your ear.

After looking and feeling silly for the last few years, The Orb will finally make using your Bluetooth quite fashionable, what the heck, you could even have different colours to match different outfits throughout the week! Don’t get too excited, the Orb won’t be released until next year and will sell for $129.

Would you part with your cash to look this cool?

What do you think of the Orb, would you use it? What type of design would you like to see as a Bluetooth headset?
