How to recreate the seasons hottest makeup trends using elf cosmetics

How to recreate the seasons hottest makeup trends using elf cosmetics

With London Fashion week AW 2012 well underway, we’ll expect to see lots of Beauty trends rolling off the catwalk!

From Marc Jacobs RED RED Lips to Jason Wu’s winged green eyeshadow, the AW2012 shows has left us in awe and inspired!

However the elf girls were struck most by Anna Sui’s collection with their ‘Blue Eyed Beauties’ rocking the runway with vivid, bolts of lightening blue eyeshadow. The look is toned down with a soft dewy complexion and nude rosebud lips which is also tre on trend…

Anna Sui AW12/13 Catwalk Show at London Fashion Week

Anna Sui's bolt of blue eyeliner

After lots of oohing and ahhing we’ve tried to recreate this look using products from elf cosmetics range.

Check it out below:

 Products used for the look:

How we achieved the look:

Step one: Prep the eyes with a primer to create the perfect canvas for the eyeshadow to adhere to.

Step two: Wet the elf small angled brush with water and dip into the Studio Single Eyeshadow in ‘Seablue’. Starting from the outer corner of the eye line your eyes with the shadow. Make sure to wing out at the outer corners. For more dramatic effect, extend the liner to just under the brow bone.

Step three: Keep building the liner until you reached the desired thickness.

Step four: Now go over the eyeshadow again with Make up lock and seal, to help lock down the shadow for longer wear and intensify the blue

TIP: After wetting the angled brush with the lock and seal solution, dip it into the sea blue eyeshadow before going over your line for an even brighter, bolder look!

Step five: Curl your lashes and apply a coat of Mineral infused Mascara in Black for long and defined lashes.

Step 6: Apply a tinted moisturizer for a dewy complexion. The elf Tinted Moisturiser is hydrating and has SPF 15 for added sun protection, perfect for creating a radiant glow.

Step 7: Cheeks at the Anna Sui catwalk had a very faint, pink tone as to not work against the strong blue in the eyes. Recreate this soft and natural look with elf Studio Blush in Tickled Pink.

Step 8: Lips were kept to a bare minimum in a soft, nude finish. We used elf studio matte lip colour in Tea Rose to recreate the rosebud look. Before applying, prep the lip by exfoliating to get rid of any dryness and slick on a coat of lip balm to keep them hydrated.

Step 9: Line the lips carefully with the matte lip colour before filling in the rest for a more defined lip.

If you prefer a matte finish to a dewy complexion, finish by dusting a layer of elf translucent matte powder over the face using a large face brush like the elf total face brush.

That’s it guys, a high fashion look in a few easy steps!

Now if you’re not a fan of blue shadow or eye makeup, there is no rule to say you cant substitute with another colour! The only rule here is bolder the better! Why not try green or purples we have an extensive range of shadows in array of colours and finishes at elf cosmetics!

We hope you liked it!

Love

Throw a hissy fit over a bizarre jewellery trend...

Throw a hissy fit over a bizarre jewellery trend...

If you thought our latest blog post was a belated April Fool, you'll definitely think this one is.

Cockroaches - love them or hate them, this new trend will shock you for sure.

Recently, a jewellery designer has decided to put her creative skills to good/bad use (delete as appropriate) to create Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Brooches.

Sounds foul enough, yeah? But wait til you hear this: they're alive.

Salt Lake City based designer Jared Gold has been busy creating and (shock horror) selling these creative critters for the past year.
A one-of-a-kind item, the hand crafted brooches - or 'Roachbrooches' - are made by gluing colourful Austrian Swarvoski crystals to the creature’s back.

To wear, you simply attach the brooch to your top with a pin, while a small chain you hook to the insect allows the cockroach to walk around a little while preventing it from going too far.

Who'd be mad enough to part with their hard-earned cash for one of these?
Thousands, it would seem - they've been scurrying off the shelves, quite literally, since they were first introduced to the online jewellery market.

Oh, and if you care for your cockroach properly, your brooch - which will set you back a whopping $80 - will last you a year.

I personally feel this is a pretty grim way to treat any creature (no matter how creepy it is) but I've spoken with people that feel it's no different than keeping a little dog with crystal collar. What do you think?

Wow Brows!

Wow Brows!
Foot crunching 'Armadillo' shoes, two toned lipstick, designer clogs - there's been some bizarre catwalk trends of late.
Well, brace yourselves - because this one will turn your hair (and your eyebrows!) white - quite literally!
Pastel eyebrows - surely a belated April Fool, no? No! This is the real thing.

Peruse this photo for a second. Did you double take? I know I did.

The catwalk craze made its debut in Paris and gives a whole new meaning to 'pencilled in' brows.

Pastel colours are currently big business in fashion houses the world over - but did it really have to go this far? Fashionistas are declaring it the next big thing, even suggesting that the pastel brow is a 'wearable' look teamed with extreme bleached hair.

Maybe so, but somehow I just can't see this trend taking off - and I don't think I'm ready to see hordes of, quite frankly, frightening, white eyebrow-ed wannabees down my local Tesco.

So what do you think? Ice Queen chic or Grandpa Joe from Willy Wonka? You decide.

Tanned vs Fair

Tanned vs Fair

The evenings are already getting lighter and it’s not long until we’ll be digging out our crop tops and shorts.

But will you be breaking out the St Tropez this year, or embracing the pale?

In recent years, doll faced beauties like Katy Perry, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Girl’s Aloud’s Nicola Roberts and Dita Von Teese have shown us that pale is, indeed, interesting.

Bronzed babes Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears and Cheryl Cole, on the other hand, will no doubt be resorting to their trusty bottle of fake tan this summer.

But what about you?

Is it sexier to be sun kissed, or will the porcelain-skinned among you be flaunting your natural beauty?

Don’t forget, there’s plenty of ways to achieve a natural looking tan without resorting to sun beds.

A subtle sweep of bronzer will brighten dull skin in an instant, while pale-faced English roses can accentuate their complexion with a hint of pink.

Why not take a tip from Nicola Roberts by keeping make-up simple yet stylish, or go for dramatic feline-esque eyes like Sophie Ellis Bextor.

What will you go for this summer? Bronzed beach babe or pale-faced chic?
