e.l.f. Blog Contest

Autumn is fast approaching, and as the seasons change so does your makeup. We leave behind the summery aqua and hot coral. We favour bronze and purple as to infuse rich colour in to the longer evenings and cooler days.

We'd love to hear about your Autumn favourites and tips for using e.l.f products. Please write us a short article, you can include pictures of yourself or your favourite looks/items/swatches too.

Six ways to make lipstick last longer

Six ways to make lipstick last longer

However well you apply your lipstick it's inevitable that you will need to reapply it later on.  Eating, drinking, laughing and kissing your long lost friends all take their toll on your lipstick!  Here are some tips and product ideas from e.l.f. on how to keep your lipstick looking fresh and fabulous.

1) Moisturise and exfoliate your lips using a dab of our Therapeutic Conditioning Lip Balm and then use a damp towel or soft toothbrush to gently scrub the lips until they feel plumped and soft.

2) Use lip liner as a coloured base, we recommend our Feather Proof Moisturising Lip Liner.  Once you’ve coloured in your lips, apply your lipstick. Our 16 shades of Mineral Lipsticks are softly pigmented and hydrating
.

3) A Lip Lock Pencil is excellent for preventing really creamy lipsticks and glosses from bleeding and smudging around the mouth. Apply before lipstick just outside the lip line.

4) For greater precision and to apply less product, apply your lipstick with a brush. Touch up lipstick from the bullet when on the go.

5) Use one of our face powders to blot your lipstick.  After you’ve applied your lipstick, hold a one-ply tissue over your lips. Gently apply dabs of powder over the tissue, enough will go through to set your lipstick. Reapply your lipstick and gloss.

6) To keep your lipstick sticking to your glass, try discreetly licking the glass before drinking from it. It works!

Makeup for glasses wearers

Makeup for glasses wearers
Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get those Peepers!

You don't need to hide your gorgeous eyes behind glasses! Use our tips to avoid making a spectacle of yourself (groan!).

Keep eye liner subtle as under glasses it can appear harsh. Using a darker eye shadow or gel-powder formula pencil will keep eyes looking soft and feminine. Try e.l.f. Brightening Eye Liner or an all round good buy a Duo Eye Shadow.

When choosing an under eye concealer you may need to consider that glasses can sometimes cast shadows that make the circles under your eye appear darker. Choose a brightening Under Eye Concealer or add a touch of highlighter to the area.

If your frames are quite bold then choose subtle eye makeup to complement them, our neutral palette Studio Eye Shadows are perfect.  However you can go to town on lip colour which matches tones or colours in your frames. Try our long lasting Lip Stains or our Mineral Lipsticks for rich and long wear colours.

Cream shadows and primers are a must if you find that powder eyeshadows end up on your lenses.  A Duo Cream Eye Shadow is a clever product to have as you can wear it alone or with powder shadow over the top. Try a primer base such as Studio Eye Primer and Liner Sealer; Liquid Shadows are an excellent no fuss option too.

One coat of mascara is enough to highlight lashes, under lenses heavy mascara can look too obvious so opt for a well pigmented, waterproof and smudgeproof mascara. A light coat of Studio Waterproof Lengthening and Volumising Mascara

The lower part of the frames can often look stark against bright blusher, bring them in to harmony by opting for a natural shade of blush which is a few shades bolder than your skin's natural blush. A matte mineral blush will do wonders.

Tidy and groomed eyebrows complement frames. If you're not sure which style to go for, try our Eyebrow Stencils  and Eyebrow Kits. We've just added a new colour, in Ash for blondes!

Get the Look - Twilight Eclipse

Get the Look - Twilight Eclipse
The film already on everyone’s lips is the next instalment of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. In this film, Bella Swan looks as beautiful as ever, but slightly more grown up. As she matures, she’s injected a little more colour into her face.

While we may not all be so lucky to snag our very own Edward Cullen, never fear. e.l.f. is on hand to show you how you can achieve the Bella Swan look for yourself in just a few, gorgeous products.

Bella’s porcelain skin is flawless. A slick of e.l.f. Tinted Moisturiser will give you instant light coverage, and the Clarifying Pressed Powder keep things matte and under control, particularly on the T-zone.

A brush of Natural Radiance Blush in Innocence gives cheeks just a hint of colour. Give your eyes a subtly smoky look like Bella’s with the Duo Eyeshadow in Mocha, and enhance with the Brightening Eye Liner in Coffee.

Make sure brows are groomed with the Wet Gloss Lash And Brow Clear Mascara, and finish eyes off with the Earth And Water Mascara Duo in Brown for an intense, yet natural look.

Make lips stand out with a slick of Mineral Lip Gloss in Night Owl, or, if you want to vamp up your look, go for a layer of Mineral Lipstick in Barely Bitten.

Keep your cool in the summer heat with e.l.f.

Keep your cool in the summer heat with e.l.f.

If the last last few days were anything to go by, we’re set for a long, hot summer full of BBQs and lazy afternoons in the park. However with the sunshine comes the heat, which can often lead to a make up disaster especially for those of us that need to commute and work from an office in the hot months. Never fear, because e.l.f. is on hand to keep you, and your make up, looking as cool as a cucumber all day long.

Get your make off to a great start by priming your face. e.l.f. Mineral Infused Face Primer will set you up for the day ahead, preparing your skin so make up glides on evenly and flawlessly for a lasting finish. This magical primer combats excess oil too – perfect for those hot afternoons in the office.

Keep your eyeshadow from creasing and fading with the Mineral Eyeshadow Primer. Not only does this it keep your eyeshadow from doing a vanishing act, but it also contains Vitamins A, C and E, which help prevent aging and moisturise the skin.

Solve the foundation dilemma with mineral make up which is great for sticky summer days, as it reacts well to perspiration, and includes SPF so your skin is protected at all times.  e.l.f.’s Mineral Foundation has a weightless formula that blends into the skin, giving your face a healthy glow without feeling heavy.

To quickly touch up during the day, blot off excess oil with Professional Shine Eraser. This product will instantly absorb oil, minimize pores and mattify shiny skin. Plus they come in a handy travel-size packet, so are perfect for popping in your handbag to take with you on your daily commute to work.

Add a touch of Studio Translucent Matte Powder to keep skin looking matte. This ‘wonder powder’ instantly mattifies skin and diminishes oil and shine to give a healthy look.

Finally, in case you want to refresh your make up after work for a night out with the girls, keep e.l.f’s Professional Travel Brush Kit with you at all times. Small enough to fit into any clutch, this fab collection means you can touch up your make up on the go. Now – Pimms o’clock anyone?
